How It All Started

I started writing books back in 2020. My first book was a cookbook built around three generations of recipes. It was something personal to me, and at the time I really didn’t know where writing would eventually take me. I just knew I enjoyed putting together something from my own life to share with my family.

After that, I wrote a completely different kind of book. It was made up of little stories and tidbits from my life … things I remembered, things I had experienced, and stories I wanted to put down on paper instead of just letting them disappear with time.

That's when I really realized how much I enjoyed writing. I liked being able to take something from my life, an idea, a memory, or even something that made me laugh, and turn it into something another person could read and relate to.

One book led to another, and eventually I had more ideas than I knew what to do with. That’s really how Zomp Publishing began. I wanted a place for all those ideas, but I also wanted to help other people with a story of their own who just don’t know how to turn it into a book.

From there, my writing went in directions I never would have predicted when I started that first cookbook in 2020.

How Rosy & Sparky Began

Rosy & Sparky actually began long before I ever thought about turning them into children’s books.

At one point in my life, I had a horse rescue. Sparky came to me first, and then came Rosy. They each had their own personalities, and before long they became much more than two horses I cared for. They became part of my life and part of my story.

Years later, when I started thinking about writing children’s books, I kept coming back to Rosy and Sparky. I could imagine so many little adventures for them, and I loved the idea of taking something real and special to me and turning it into stories children could enjoy.

Where Strong for Life Came From

When I turned 60, I started looking at fitness differently. I had spent 36 years as a personal trainer and many years involved in martial arts, so exercise had always been a big part of my life. But at 60, I realized being strong wasn’t about lifting the most weight or trying to look a certain way anymore. It was about being able to keep doing the things I love.

I started thinking about everything I had learned over the years … not just from training other people, but from training myself and simply getting older. Our bodies change, but that doesn’t mean we stop moving, stop getting stronger, or let a number decide what we can do.

That became the idea behind Strong for Life. I wanted to write something practical and encouraging for people who want to stay strong, capable, and independent as they get older.

To me, fitness should give you more freedom to live your life, not take it over.

What’s Next

I’m not sure where Zomp Publishing will take me next, and I think that’s part of what I enjoy about it.

I never started out thinking I would write children’s books, fitness books, or eventually help other people bring their own ideas to life. It just grew one book and one idea at a time.

I still have plenty of stories I want to tell and plenty of ideas I want to explore. Some may be helpful, some may be funny, and some may simply be worth sharing.

That’s what I want Zomp Publishing to be: a place where I can keep creating, keep writing, and hopefully put something into the world that someone else enjoys.

And as long as I still have something to say, I’ll probably keep writing.
